Wine Summary Image

This elegant and structured wine is made from the grapes from two blocks, including the 80 year old vines at the Lowke family vineyard at Ebenezer. The vines grow in lighter sandy loam soil and are still cane pruned and hand picked as they have been for 3 generations.

The grapes were destalked (separating berries from the bunch) and placed uncrushed into small stainless steel open fermenters. A cultured yeast was used to start the fermentation and the tanks were hand plunged spending 7 days on skins at 28° C. Further maturation in a mixture of French and American Oak for 18 months has resulted in a wine of great structure and finesse.

Expert Reviews

The wine was neither fined nor filtered (a badge of honour) and is faintly turbid, although the colour is deep; all of the usual feel-good techniques are elaborated on on the back label; it has almost frightening power, with a fireworks display of black fruits, licorice, spice and oak; improbable though it may seem, the wine is very well-balanced and will richly repay cellaring, keep under lock and key for the next five years at least. Rating 95 - Drink by 2035 - James Halliday, Australian Wine Companion (MAR/2012)

Deep garnet purple color, the 2010 Terroirs of the Barossa Ebenezer Shiraz presents aromas of warmed red plums and blackberries with suggestions of damp loam, pepper and Provencal herbs. Medium to full-bodied with a taut backbone of firm chewy tannins and crisp acid supporting the dense fruit concentration, it finishes long. Drink it from 2014 to 2022+. Rating 91 - Drink 2014 - 2022 Lisa Perrotti Brown MW, eRobertParker.com (MAR/2013)
